Abstract

The 980-MeV enhancement in the effective-mass spectrum of the π-+ neutrals is observed in the reaction K-n→Λπ- neutrals, when the effective mass of the neutrals lies in the η(550) region. However, no corresponding enhancement is seen when the η decays by the charged modes. An effect found in the ρ0π- system from the final state Λπ+π-π-, when extended to Λρ-π0(→Λπ-π0π0), predicts the observed enhancement in the Λπ- neutrals final state and accounts for its absence when charged η decays are considered.
