Abstract
Combined data on the reactions pp → ppπo, pp → pnπ+and pn → ppπ- at 7.0 GeV/c is used to study the peripheral reaction N1N2 → N3(N4π) in terms of the isospin amplitudes MIIx (where Ix and I are the isospins of the exchange particle and the (N4π) combination respectively). The total and differential cross sections and the mass distributions M(N4π) of these isospin states are discussed in terms of different possible solutions. Similar analysis at 28.5 GeV/c shows that the M 1 20 cross section decreases slowly with incident momentum in agreement with pomeron exchange.
