Abstract

Coherent columnar dipolar vortices are ubiquitous in nature. This vortices are often found in geophysical flows. These vortices are associated with the transfer of mass and momentum over a very large length-scale. Using 3D Yukawa liquid as a prototype, we have performed “first principles' Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation of dipolar columnar rankine vortices and studied its dynamics. A head of collision between such columnar vortices is performed and a non-linear vorticitystreamfunction relationship is obtained from our simulation in a 3D Yukawa liquid. The role of background friction is also studied.
