Abstract

Bacteria and viruses that infect them (phages) have been battling for billions of years. To counter phage infection, bacteria evolved myriad defense mechanisms, ranging from nucleic acid targeting to chemical warfare and self-inflicted cell death. This SnapShot overviews current knowledge on the immune arsenal of bacteria.
