Abstract

The coherent reaction pd → pdπ+π- is studied in pd collisions at 11.6 GeV/c. Strong Δ++ (1236) production together with some dπ- enhancement (d0*) at ∼2200 MeV are found in this reaction. The mass spectrum of the pure I = 1 2 combination pπ+π- shows a significant peak at ∼1460 MeV. A double Regge fit describes the general feature of the M(pπ+π-) distribution, but does not reproduce the narrow peak. Comparison with a similar analysis at 7.0 GeV/c shows the same results, however the d0* cross section decreases with incident energy.
